house sitting

I've heard stories and am curious to hear testimonials about this subject. I am interested in house sitting internationally for people who may have a second home in Costa Rica and just need someone to be there to look after things when they are not. It would be nice if it were a paid gig but either way, I am just looking for a free place to stay and if I can help out others in the mean time, that is perfect.
Are there any agency's I could go through or is it strictly a "who you know" basis?
Thank you
beth

    Hey Beth,

Have you considered doing work exchange in Costa Rica? If so, check out my friends retreat center. They are always looking for good people to spend time and help out.

I've just returned from 16 days there. It's just 2 miles from Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast and is 12 acres of heaven! Check it out at: www.AGlobalCreek.com and if you contact Ahki or Joy, let them know that Michelle referred you.

If you want to see more photos, check out the photo gallery on my blog: www.MichellePrince.com

No, I'm not in Costa Rica now. I left there on January 9th... a day after being in a 6.2 earthquake in San Jose.

The weather was great but remember, there are multiple distinct climate zones in Costa Rica so it really depends on where you're planning to spend your time. Most regions have a rainy season (May-November) and a dry season (December-April). I grew up in Oregon but have never seen it rain harder than it did a couple of times in Puerto Viejo.

        Hi Beth,

At this point, there are no paid opportunities at Global Creek. They only have work exchange opportunities. But, as we grow, that will definately change.

Cool! Just email Ahki and let him know that you're interested in work exchange. He'll want to know how you can contribute so be sure to include that in your email. They need people to help with everything from yoga classes to cooking and cleaning. If you're serious and you want Ahki's personal email, contact me privately and I'll provide it.
